Divine!

Is anyone else as excited to see this as I am?!

Growing up, John Waters' Hairspray was one of my favourite films. I never knew of his earlier work (or of Divine) until my early 20s, and it was then that I realised why people's parents looked at me funny when I said as a child that it was one of my faves... and having rockabilly parents during the 80s and 90s, I got my fair share of weird looks!

I have been watching John Waters and the I Am Divine page on Facebook for a while, following the film's progress and waiting for it to bare fruit....and finally its here!

Now I am off to  find out the Australian release date!

Hi again!

So it seems I am back...and that I somehow only seem to post a new post every year!?!!!! Some slack bitch I am  hey! Everyday I think "oh that's a great idea for a blog post" and then I never get around to doing it. Blogging really takes self-discipline doesn't it! Well, I am here to try AGAIN!

I have also just started video blogging, which I will include on here, as well as YouTube. You can find me by searching "Lucy Belle". I am still getting the hang of it...GooglePlus/YouTube is so damn confusing! So many profiles under one person...so many links...so many new windows open....I don't understand!! AM I really this computer illiterate?! Looks like it. Let's face it, I can't even use an iPad! See what happens when you grow up in a PC household and not a Mac environment.

Anyhoo, wish me luck and please feel free to offer me feedback and suggestions.

Love,

Tadanori Yokoo 横尾 忠則

While searching the internet for some images of kimono for my thesis, I came across this artist,Tadanori Yokoo  横尾 忠則 (b.1936). He specializes in graphic design, illustration and printmaking, with his most famous works being advertisement posters relating to Japanese popular culture.

In 1968 Yukio Mishima claimed, "Tadanori Yokoo's works reveal all of the unbearable things which we Japanese have inside ourselves and they make people angry and frightened. He makes explosions with the frightening resemblance which lies between the vulgarity of billboards advertising variety shows during festivals at the shrine devoted to the war dead and the red containers of Coca Cola in American Pop Art, things which are in us but which we do not want to see."
Someone should definitely get a tattoo of his work!

My favourite time of the year WINTER is finally here!
I am so excited it is starting to get cold here in Adelaide after a few weeks of a heat wave. Don't get me wrong, I love summer, but gee am I ready to rug up and enjoy the season for beanies and giant scarves!

Fairytale Hair

I have always been quite conservative with my hair. It has been long and naturally curly for all of my life, occasionally blonded with foils. The most drastic thing I ever did was cut it into a bob a few years back and I had a love-hate relationship with it. I had never ventured out into the world of colours until last winter.

I had about a hundred photos I had been collecting from various blogs of pastel hair, rainbow hair and dipped-dyed hair. I decided to go for it and dye my hair something pretty and feminine.

I started with a light pink rinse incase I hated it. I then got my confidence up and went for bright pink.

Sick of the upkeep, I went back to fairy floss pink and then one day on a whim I dyed it light purple....

....and then... SHOCKER... I went to dark purple!!

After a fair few months of cute, colourful hair, I was over having to bleach my pillow cases and t-shirts white again. My hair was in pretty poor condition and needed some love. I went back to being a blonde and had some much needed treatment done.

Now that it is winter again, of course I am tempted to dye my hair all over again! I miss having beautiful princess hair and feeling like a mermaid! I have always wanted to have red hair...and by red I mean orange, bright orange...like "Fifth Element" orange! Who knows how long I will be able to resist before I cave in :)

Last minute trip to KI

A friend of mine and her hubby were organizing a trip over the Easter break to Kangaroo Island, aka "KI" and I was desperate to go along but was tied down due to work. On the day they were leaving for the island I got a phone call from my boss telling me that my shift was cancelled (yey!!!) I immediately jumped online and booked a seat on the ferry so I too could join in on the island fun.

What KI looks like as a map....

....and what KI looks like in reality.......AMAZING NO?!

KI is about a 45min ferry ride from Adelaide's Cape Jervis, about 110 km (70 miles for those of you in the US). The island was discovered by Captain Matthew Flinders 1802!! and is home to an array of flora and fauna including the Australian Sea Lion.

                            -Seal Bay-

Kangaroo Island's Seal Bay Conservation Park is the only site in the world where you can get up close and personal with these amazing creatures! We picked a good time to visit the island as many seals had recently given birth so there were lots of pups to see. I can't believe how close we got.

We camped out on a friend's property (free accommodation, SCORE!) and took the Jeep out driving for most of the day, visiting all of the sights.

We lucked out with the weather on the first day with only a few showers here and there, letting us do just about everything on our list; Admirals Arch and the New Zealand Fur Seals, Cape Borda Light House and Conservation Park, Snellings, and Vivonne.

                                  -Remarkable Rocks-

The weather wasn't so nice the next day but held up until lunch time, when we retreated to the car for some warmth and some instant noodles :) My favourite place from the whole trip would definitely have to be Stokes Bay- a pristine white sandy beach with crystal-clear water. To get to there you have to climb over the boulders and pebble beach, through a hole in the rocky cliff and out to the other side, all of which is only accessible at low tide.

Climbing, climbing.....

.........the BEACH!!

SOOOO beautiful!! I went off exploring the cliff and came across a secluded little cave pool enclosed by the rocks. I went in calf-deep and wished it were summer so I could dive in. I tried to take photos but the water was so clear that it just looked like sand! We decided that we would have to go back during the summer time and camp out at Stokes Bay beach. It was just too gorgeous to not return.

La Fuerza de*Frida* Vogue

Photos from Vogue Mexico: Michael Filonow

Life sucks!

So the semester is finally over and it is tme to relax before I start work fo the holidays. I have been dreaming of my fur coats on laybuy and finally went in to pick them up from the Goodwill store a few weeks ago. With some dosh in my hand, I skipped down there expecting to come home with two new pets and you wouldnt believe what happened when I asked for them! Apparently they had lost my laybuy.

MY COATS ARE GONE!

Yeh right, they probably went to put them aside and someone offered them money upfront and they sold them. Cant f**king believe it! I had been thinking of them babies for ages and they had to screw me over! I was so mad! They gave me back my deposit and all they could do was say "sorry, I dont know how this could have happened". I am angry. I am peeved. And I am depressed. I had my heart set on these coats. If you have ever tried to buy a fur you will no how hard it is to find one that fits perfectly. These two were like a glove...and they were on sale. I will never find a deal like that ever again.

Sucks to be me.
Lula.

POW!!

Tabi

Browsing the web last night I came across the most amazing little flats ever...

Maison Martin Margiela Tabi Flats!!

These little gems are inspired by traditional Japanese Tabi, made from super lux Italian leather with cute little leather ties on the front. They come in cracked gunmetal black, patent black, matte black and ballet pink. I first found them on ebay for $800!! After a mild heart attack I continued on to find them cheaper...and boy was I lucky! On the Maison Martin Margiela site they are reduced to...wait for it...$228!!!! *shriek*

Sadly I am currently studying my Masters and am again a poor student so of course I cannot afford these little beauties...once I start work in the holidays I hope things will change :P But until then...one can only dream...*sigh*

Kimono: Winter Style

Rugging up for Winter

I love when winter rolls around and I get to rug up in super heavy scarves and chunky-knit beanies! I am in love with fur this year and cannot wait until it gets cold enough to wear. I recently laybuy'd two furs from my local op-shop for $40!! One is the most beautiful fox fur waist length coat in mint condition, no tears or bald spots, and the other is a chocolate brown cropped-sleeve, fur patchwork coat!! I will put some photos up when I get them in my lucky little hands heeeee! I am also still totally obsessed with kimono fabrics, I just wish I had mine here in Adelaide with me so I could rock them with the furs, Paris style (think Nadeah)!!

Here are some photos I have collected from street shot sites like Face Hunter, the Satorialist, and from my countless photo folders that inspire my look:
